Rehatch is run by a small team, and email reaches a human — not a ticket queue. If something's broken, tell us and we'll fix it. The fixes below cover the things that come up most often, so check whether yours is here first; if it isn't, or the fix doesn't work, just email us.
My license key won't activate
Work through these in order:
- Use the key, not the order number. The license key is in your purchase email and on your Gumroad receipt page. It looks like
XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX. - Watch for a trailing space. Copying from an email often grabs one. Rehatch trims it, but a character dropped mid-copy will fail.
- Check your device count. A license covers 3 devices. If you've used all three, free one up (see below) before activating a fourth.
- Check you're online. Activation checks the key against Gumroad, so it needs a connection. If the check times out, Rehatch says so rather than silently failing.
I lost my license key
It's in your Gumroad library and in your original purchase email. There's also a link to both directly under the license field in Rehatch's Settings tab, so you don't have to leave the extension to find it.
I'm switching computers, or I've used all 3 devices
Before you uninstall Rehatch or wipe a machine, open Settings and click "Remove" next to your license. That releases the device slot so you can use it elsewhere. If you skip it, the slot stays counted against your three even though the extension is gone — and reinstalling a few times can lock you out of your own licence.
If that's already happened, email us with your license key and we'll reset your activations.
Capture isn't working on this page
Rehatch can't capture on a few pages, because Chrome doesn't allow extensions to read them:

On any normal web page it should work. If capture fails on an ordinary site, reload the page and try again — a tab that was open before Rehatch was installed or updated hasn't loaded Rehatch's code yet.
The keyboard shortcut doesn't work
The shortcut differs by platform, because Mac keyboards have no Alt key:
- Windows / Linux:

If nothing happens, another extension has probably claimed the same combination — Chrome silently gives it to whichever registered first. Go to chrome://extensions/shortcuts to see what's assigned and set your own. The Capture button in the side panel always works regardless.
Generation fails, or I get an OpenAI error
Rehatch uses your OpenAI account, so generation problems are usually account-side:
- "Incorrect API key" — the key was mistyped, or it's been revoked. Create a fresh one at platform.openai.com/api-keys and paste it into Settings.
- Quota or billing errors — OpenAI requires credit on the account before the API works, separately from any ChatGPT subscription. Check your billing page.
- Rate limits — new OpenAI accounts have low limits. Wait a moment and retry.
- The image was declined — OpenAI refuses some image requests on content grounds. Rehatch tells you when this happens and still gives you the caption; try re-rolling, or capture a different source post.
Image generation takes roughly 30–40 seconds. That's OpenAI working, not Rehatch hanging — we deliberately use the higher-quality setting because the faster one garbles small text.
The generated text or image isn't what I wanted
Use Re-roll on a result to generate a fresh take. For more control, the Craft tab lets you pick an ad style and add your own instruction. And the quality of what comes out depends heavily on your business profile — a specific, well-filled brief produces much better adaptations than a name and a URL. "Generate brief from website" on the Businesses tab is the fastest way to a good one.
The extension seems stuck
Close and reopen the side panel. If that doesn't clear it, go to chrome://extensions and click the reload icon on Rehatch. Your business profiles, saved posts, and keys survive a reload — they're stored locally and aren't affected.

Reporting a bug
What helps us most: what you were doing, what you expected, what happened instead, the site you were on, and your Rehatch version (bottom of the Settings tab). A screenshot is worth a lot. Please don't send us your OpenAI key or license key unless we specifically ask — and if you do send a screenshot of the Settings tab, cover them up.
